The Charlie Chaplin Studios lot, later the Jim Henson Company lot, is one of the few places in Hollywood where multiple eras of the industry physically overlap. Built by Chaplin in 1917 as a declaration of creative independence, it became the home of his most enduring work and a symbol of artist-led production during the rise of the studio system. In later decades, the property evolved into a cultural crossroads, housing A&M Records during a formative period in popular music and hosting landmark moments such as the recording of We Are the World, one of the most significant artistic collaborations of the 20th century. Under Jim Henson’s ownership, the lot entered a new chapter as the home of The Muppet Show and a center for character-driven television with global reach. Today, owned by John Mayer and McG, the lot is being carefully stewarded to preserve its legacy while remaining an active, working creative campus, carrying forward a century-long commitment to artist-driven work and cultural impact.
